What is advocacy why is it needed?
The Royal College of Psychiatrists has produced a very helpful report that defines independent advocacy.
The report Independent advocacy for people with mental disorder is the result of work over the past two years to update RCP's outdated 1999 guide. It was informed by a Working Group that included Action for Advocacy.
Rick Henderson, a4a's Chief Executive said:
"We welcome this report and are proud to have been involved in its development. Although there are one or two areas where we might disagree with the RCP's interpretation of advocacy, especially in relation to non-instructed advocacy, overall it is a valuable resource for psychiatrists and other mental health professionals."
